Overview

WasteCo began in Christchurch in 2013 with three sweeper trucks and a mission to provide smarter, cleaner, more sustainable waste solutions for Aotearoa. Today, they operate at a national scale — servicing councils, commercial operators and industrial clients across the South Island.

They approached me at a critical moment in their company’s growth:
WasteCo was preparing for a major NZX stock exchange listing, and they needed a brand film ready for investors, media and stakeholders within days.

What followed was one of the fastest high-stakes turnarounds of my career.

The Approach

A shoot that started with a phone call

I first heard from WasteCo on a Thursday.
They needed a full film — story, filming, edit, motion graphics, everything — in time for a Tuesday night delivery.

To meet the deadline, we moved fast:

Friday
– Met with the leadership team
– Scoped the story
– Locked in the narrative and visual approach
– Prepped gear + logistics

Weekend
– Filmed operational B-roll across Christchurch
– Captured sweeping, waste recovery, environmental services, skip and industrial operations

Monday & Tuesday
– Filmed additional interviews and plant sequences
– Cut, graded, sound-designed and shaped the story
– Built motion graphics to visualise their service offering and national footprint

Tuesday night
– Delivered the final master in time for the WasteCo NZX launch event

A four-day idea → execution pipeline.

Visual Strategy

The film needed to feel:

  • Clean

  • Confident

  • Large-scale

  • Operationally competent

  • Ready for investors

We focused on:

  • Fleet operations in action

  • Environmental systems

  • Industrial crews

  • Facility interiors

  • Crisp aerials and steady-cam movement

  • Clean branded graphics

The Outcome

The final film supported WasteCo’s successful NZX listing, giving the company a strong, credible, investor-ready brand story at the moment they needed it most.

The video became one of their primary assets for:
