VetPlus

Brand Story + Recruitment Film

Client: VetPlus

Sector: Veterinary Care / Animal Health / Rural & Regional Services

Location: Rotorua & Taupō Region, New Zealand

Film Type: Brand Story + Recruitment Film

Your Role: Writer / Director / Cinematographer / Editor

Overview

VetPlus is one of the Bay of Plenty’s most respected veterinary groups — delivering large-animal, small-animal, emergency care and rural services across the Rotorua and Taupō region. Their focus is simple: a strong team culture, deep community connection, and a commitment to animal wellbeing.

This project began before the COVID pandemic, with early planning and a two-day reconnaissance trip to meet the team, understand the landscapes, and begin shaping the story. When lockdowns hit, the entire production paused — and once restrictions lifted, we completed a full three-day shoot across the region to finish the films.

The outcome was two core pieces:

  1. A brand story film reflecting VetPlus’ values and community impact

  2. A recruitment film to help attract veterinarians, nurses and support staff in a tight labour market

The Approach

1. Deep Understanding Before Production

Before shooting a single frame, I spent time with VetPlus leadership and staff to understand:

  • Their culture

  • Their mission

  • The challenges of recruiting high-quality veterinary professionals

  • What new staff want and need from an employer

  • How to authentically represent the community they serve

This early process shaped the visual language, interview structure and the emotional tone of the film.

2. Two-Phase Production (Pre-Covid + Post-Covid)

Phase 1 – Pre-Covid reconnaissance (2 days)

  • Visited clinics and rural operations

  • Met vets, nurses, farmers, families and staff

  • Established key story themes

  • Identified filming locations, farms, and natural environments

  • Built trust and clarity around the message

Phase 2 – Post-Covid main shoot (3 days)
Once restrictions lifted, we completed a fast and focused three-day production involving:

  • Large-animal callouts

  • Small-animal clinic workflow

  • Rural and farm environments

  • Emergency care sequences

  • Interviews with vets, nurses, leadership and support staff

  • Community interactions

  • Aerial footage across the Rotorua and Taupō landscapes

The goal was realism and warmth — not staged acts, but genuine moments.

3. Editing & Storycraft

Based on what we learned about the team and their culture, I crafted both films to highlight:

  • Why VetPlus is a great place to work

  • How they support and uplift their staff

  • The emotional connection between vets and the communities they serve

  • The beauty and variety of the region

  • The mix of rural and urban veterinary work

  • The depth of care shown by the team

Post-production included colour grading, sound design, motion graphics and two separate narrative cuts tailored to brand and recruitment audiences.

  2. A recruitment film to help attract veterinarians, nurses and support staff in a tight labour market

The Outcome

VetPlus received two cornerstone films that continue to help them build brand trust and recruit world-class veterinary talent.

The brand film communicates who they are: genuine, community-oriented, deeply committed to animal care.
The recruitment film speaks directly to prospective staff — showing the lifestyle, the environment, the culture and the purpose behind the work.

These films have been used for:

  • Website & brand launch

  • Recruitment campaigns

  • Job listings & onboarding

  • Social media marketing

  • Local community presentations

  • Staff and stakeholder communications

Delivered Assets

  • Brand story film (3–5 minutes)

  • Recruitment film (2–3 minutes)

  • Cut-down social edits

  • B-roll library (rural, clinic, landscape, interview footage)

  • Still frames for web + print

  • Aerials and landscape establishing shots

Planning something similar? Let’s talk.

If you’re building films that mix community, people, care and storytelling — I can manage the full process from discovery to delivery, shaping the story with authenticity and intent.
