Overview
FootScience International is a globally recognised New Zealand company specialising in medical-grade foot orthotics, best known for their flagship product, Formthotics. Founded in Christchurch over 50 years ago, the business has grown from a local innovation into an international leader in foot health and performance.
I was commissioned to create a founder-led brand story that captured the origins, evolution and values of the company — translating decades of technical expertise, innovation and global growth into a clear, human narrative. Although retired from day-to-day operations, the founder remained actively involved as a director, offering a rare and reflective perspective on the company’s journey.
Alongside the primary brand film, FootScience International also commissioned a second piece focused on their environmental and conservation commitments, extending the brand story beyond product and performance.
“In the world of business, there’s a profound magic in the art of storytelling — and when that magic is expertly captured on screen, it becomes something truly extraordinary.”
— Soo‑May Yuan, Digital Marketing Specialist, Formthotics
The Approach
To craft an authentic, long-form brand story grounded in legacy and purpose, the process included:
Research & story development — working closely with the marketing team and founder to build a clear narrative timeline spanning five decades of innovation, manufacturing and global expansion.
Founder & staff interviews — capturing firsthand insights from key figures across the organisation to ground the story in people, experience and continuity.
Production planning & filming — carefully structured interview setups supported by contextual B-roll, manufacturing environments and brand-aligned visuals.
Second film: conservation storytelling — documenting FootScience International’s support of native species conservation, including Ākia and Rock Wren projects on a remote, protected island off New Zealand’s West Coast.
Editing & review process — collaborative review rounds to refine tone, pacing and messaging, ensuring accuracy, clarity and brand alignment.
